The Science Behind Our Favorite Scar Treatments in Rochester

No two people have the same skin, so why follow trends that claim to work for everyone? At Envision, we tailor every patient’s plan after taking an in-depth skin analysis. If our scans show scars that you wish weren’t there, we’ll start discussing your options for scar treatments.

Lasers, needles, and surgery may sound scary without knowing the whole story, so keep reading to learn the science behind our favorite scar treatments in Rochester.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are some of the most common injectables in the aesthetics industry. They’re also one of the best ways to promote collagen growth. We carry five varieties of dermal fillers, but Sculptra is our favorite for smooth, natural-looking results.

How Sculptra Works

Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to fill facial lines and wrinkles and rejuvenate your skin by creating a more voluminous, refreshed look.

PLLA closely resembles lactic acid, a naturally occurring substance that plays a role in collagen production. By promoting collagen production, Sculptura evens out the surface of the skin. This is one of our favorite noninvasive scar treatments in Rochester; however, some patients may require a more involved approach.

Surgical Options

As our cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Whipple is an expert in deciding if surgery is the best option for you. She’ll walk you through your scans, describe your condition, and answer any questions during your one-on-one consultation. When everyone is on the same page, we’ll discuss what technique will work best for your particular scarring.

The Techniques We Use:

For our surgical scar treatments in Rochester, Dr. Whipple uses two different techniques: W-plasty and Z-plasty.

A W-plasty camouflages the straight line of a scar into an irregular pattern. By creating small triangles of skin along either side of the scar, this technique encourages uniform healing for scarring around the forehead, cheeks, chin, and nose.

A Z-Plasty works in a very similar way. The biggest difference between a W- and a Z-plasty is the incision pattern used. A Z-plasty works with three simple incisions to create angles ranging from 30 to 60 degrees, while a W-plasty typically is reserved for angles up to 30 degrees. Each has its place in our practice, but we take every option into consideration before recommending surgery.

Laser Resurfacing

One of our most effective noninvasive scar treatments in Rochester uses the power of fractional lasers. We’re proud to offer Halo, a hybrid fractional laser that can work for all skin types. While removing scars with lasers may seem like something out of your favorite sci-fi movie , the science is actually very simple.

The Halo laser works by combining the power of ablative and nonablative wavelengths to remove problem skin cells and resurface their texture in one quick treatment.

The ablative wavelengths remove the top layer of skin to promote collagen production and skin tightening. Then the nonablative wavelengths go to work by creating small thermal injuries to kick collagen and elastin production into high gear! This is one of the best treatments we offer for almost any type of scar.

Additional Options for Your Plan

Lasers, injectables, and surgery are all highly effective options at Envision for removing scars. To take your rejuvenation to the next level, we recommend a few follow-ups to your scar treatment in Rochester.

Forever Clear BBL

The last thing you’ll want after your scar treatment in Rochester is more acne that can cause scarring! Both popular and effective, light therapy is an excellent option for acne prevention.

Forever Clear BBL uses the power of broad-band lightwaves to reduce inflammation and clears your skin of acne-causing bacteria on your back, chest, or face.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion pairs well with our noninvasive approaches to scar treatment in Rochester, such as Halo or Sculptra injections.  This chemical-free treatment helps to fight discoloration, sun damage, stretch marks, and more. It also promotes collagen production, which is why we often follow up with this treatment before scheduling any other scar removal.

Hydrafacial

There’s a lot to love about this facial treatment. When used in addition to scar treatments in Rochester, a HydraFacial takes your beauty to the next level.

We start by cleansing your face just as we would with any facial. Then, we remove any toxins via lymphatic drainage. Finally, we apply a booster serum to your skin to give it the nutrients it needs.
