Envision Eye & Aesthetics

A Guide to The Best Med Spa Treatments of 2021 (By Concern)

Through the pandemic and during quarantine, you might’ve hopped on the skin care bandwagon, and we love that! Right now, self-care is more important than ever before. The definition of self-care varies from one person to the next, but the main idea is to do things for yourself that make you feel good.

One of the best ways you can care for yourself is by taking charge of your skin health. Not only can it give you newfound self-confidence, it’s an investment in your overall health and wellbeing!

At Envision Aesthetics, making people feel good about themselves is our top priority. Our med spa treatments are sure to put a smile on your face and an extra pep in your step. We’re a premier Rochester medical spa that specializes in many facial aesthetic services.

With so many aesthetic treatment options to choose from, we thought it would be helpful to create a treatment guide based on what’s concerning you.

What is a med spa? Is it different from a day spa?

We love day spas for relaxing massages, basic facials, and a good manicure. However, their capabilities and results just don’t measure up to a medical spa.

Medical spas offer similar medical-grade aesthetic procedures and skincare products that you’d find at your dermatologist, but in a tranquil day spa environment. Clients can expect advanced treatments, state-of-the-art technology, and the highest safety standards from a medical spa like Envision Aesthetics.

Besides being led by a board-certified physician—who performs many treatments herself—our licensed and experienced nurses and aestheticians perform the nonsurgical cosmetic treatments at our Rochester med spa.

Our Rochester med spa treatments by concern

As you’ll notice below, many of our treatments address similar concerns but vary in method. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Through a consultation with one of the skincare experts at our Rochester med spa, we can find which treatments serve you best. We will take your individual concerns and goals, relevant medical history, and timeline into account to create a specialized treatment plan .

Since this blog would go on forever if we mentioned every possible treatment for every concern, we go over our top 2 or 3 treatments for many popular skin concerns below:

Facial Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a top concern for most men and women who visit our Rochester med spa. They’re one of the first signs of aging. However, they can be easy to treat—and prevent—if addressed early enough.

Botox®/Dysport®/Xeomin®

Neuromodulator injections like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are among the most popular options for treating and preventing bothersome wrinkles and lines on the face. We inject these FDA-approved products quickly and easily into the muscles that contract and cause expression lines, or dynamic wrinkles.

The active ingredient in Botox and Dysport temporarily relaxes facial muscles. This ingredient minimizes the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, prevents them from getting worse, and prevents new ones from forming!

The wrinkles we can best treat with neuromodulators include:

  • Lines between the brows (11 lines)
  • Around the eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Nasalis lines (bunny lines on the nose)
  • Around the mouth
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles

Fillers

As time passes, natural aging causes us to lose the subcutaneous fat that helps us appear more youthful. It doesn’t help that your collagen and elastin production declines around age 25, either. Collagen and elastin fibers make up the structure of the skin. They’re the framework that keeps everything together. Collagen gives the skin firmness, while elastin gives skin the elasticity needed to bounce back.

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) or poly-L-lactic acid-based injectables that work to fill in and minimize the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and folds. These injectable gels aim to combat the body’s natural aging process and plump up the skin. When paired with Botox or other neurotoxins, fillers offer powerful wrinkle-fighting benefits.

Forever Young BBL™

Forever Young BBL harnesses the power of broadband light (BBL) to transform your skin at the DNA level! Forever Young BBL delivers pulses of light that specifically target your skin concerns and give you remarkable results.

To treat wrinkles, we use the Forever Young BBL device to gently deliver heat energy deep into your skin’s layers. In response to this heat, your body ramps up production of collagen and elastin. This provides a long-lasting plumping effect that minimizes —and can even eliminate—your most bothersome wrinkles, not to mention dozens of other benefits.

Sun Damage + Hyperpigmentation

Unfortunately, many of us were unaware of the dangers of prolonged UV exposure until later in life, when much of the damage already occurred. We usually see this damage in the form of wrinkles, loose skin, and brown spots or hyperpigmentation. The good news? Treatments at our med spa in Rochester can eliminate sun damage, including precancerous spots, and treat other forms of hyperpigmentation (like Melasma)!

Forever Young BBL

Not only does it fight wrinkles, but Forever Young BBL is also amazing for treating sun damage and hyperpigmentation. The broadband light delivered in pulses to the skin specifically targets areas of darker pigmentation and breaks it up, eliminating many spots altogether!

Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are infinitely customizable and we use them to treat many signs of skin damage. Often, sun damage and other types of pigmentation occur in both the surface (epidermal) and deep (dermal) layers of the skin.

Pigmentation  Surface (Epidermal)   Deep (Dermal)
Sun damage from prolonged UV exposure (freckles, brown spots)     Yes  Yes
Birthmarks   No  Yes
Normal tan  Yes  No
Melasma (hormonal hyperpigmentation)  Yes  Yes
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (acne, burns)  Yes  Yes
Pitted or raised scars (from cuts, severe acne, surgery, etc.)  Yes  Yes

The beauty of a chemical peel is its ability to address both epidermal and dermal hyperpigmentation. Your skin specialist at our Rochester med spa will consider your unique skin type and damage. From there, we’ll  determine the exact ingredients, strength, and length of time of your chemical peel.

Facial Volume Loss (sagging skin, jowls, hollows)

Eventually, everyone’s skin succumbs to the effects of gravity, time, and certain lifestyle or environmental factors. We offer many med spa treatments to combat loose or sagging skin, but two of the most common are fillers and Plasma Pen treatments.

Fillers

Besides giving the boot to many facial wrinkles and folds, fillers can also bring volume and life back to your skin. Our injectors are part medical experts and part artists, precisely placing fillers in areas where it will serve your appearance best.

We can use fillers to lift fallen cheeks or a sunken brow, fill in under eyes and other areas of hollowness, plump up deflated lips, and even rejuvenate your hands for a more youthful appearance!

Plasma Pen™

The Plasma Pen, sometimes called fibroblast therapy or fibroblasting, is one of the latest cosmetic procedures at our Rochester med spa to address volume loss and sagging skin. The Plasma Pen works by converting electrical energy from the surrounding air into an energized oxygen-and-nitrogen plasma stream. From there, we transmit the stream into the skin’s surface via a probe.

Plasma Pen treatments are one of the few options outside plastic surgery that can significantly improve sagging eyelids and under eye bags. We also use it to address forehead lines, jawline sagging (jowls), nasolabial folds, and more.

Loose Skin or Wrinkles On The Neck

If we address every single wrinkle, line, crease, or fold on your face, but do nothing for the delicate skin on your neck, you’re going to end up giving your real age away. Do unto thy neck as you do unto thy face, we always say!

Microneedling

We sometimes refer to microneedling as collagen induction therapy, or CIT. The microneedles in our Eclipse Micro-Pen stimulate your fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin. This plumps the skin over time for smoother, tighter neck contours. The increased elastin also helps your neck maintain its shape in a comfortable and safe way.

SkinTyte

SkinTyte is a BBL treatment that delivers heat deep below the skin’s surface to increase tissue tightening and reduce skin laxity. The treatment heats the body’s dermal collagen to cause it to contract and to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. This results in a renewed collagen base in the neck. After a series of SkinTyte treatments on your neck, you’ll get a smooth look that takes years off your appearance.

RF Microneedling

We know it sounds counterintuitive, but injuring your skin (in a sterile environment, by a trained specialist) can have incredible rejuvenation effects! At Envision Aesthetics, we use our INTRAcel RF microneedling device to create controlled micro-injuries in the epidermis, while driving radiofrequency (RF) energy into the dermis. This treatment both addresses surface and deep level sun damage and hyperpigmentation.

You might’ve seen at-home microneedle rollers, but don’t think these can even come close to providing the same results as RF microneedling in our Rochester med spa. Our equipment uses perfectly spaced, conductive microneedles that emit high-energy RF waves to penetrate the skin deeper and more evenly. Additionally, performing an abrasive treatment like this at home, rather than in a sterile med spa environment, greatly increases your chance of infection or scars.

Acne

Acne doesn’t discriminate based on sex, age, or skin type. At some point, we all deal with breakouts, whether it’s in adolescence, adulthood, or a lifelong struggle. There’s no question it affects your overall appearance and self-esteem, not to mention it hurts, too!

Medical Grade Skincare Products

Med spas offer medical-grade skincare products that you definitely can’t find at your local drugstore or Sephora. If you (or your teens) visit us for a skin consultation, our experts can provide tailored treatment recommendations based on your needs. Not only that, but they can help you put together an at-home skincare regimen to treat and prevent acne.

Forever Clear BBL

Forever Clear BBL is another amazing treatment in the BBL family that addresses acne at its source. Additionally, this treatment fights inflammation, hyperpigmentation, and scarring associated with the condition.

We first treat the skin with blue BBL light to eliminate acne-causing bacteria deep in pores at the source. Next, we treat the area with yellow light to reduce inflammation and redness. Finally, we treat the skin with infrared light in gentle pulses to initiate the body’s natural healing response and stimulate collagen production. The end result is a healthy, acne-free complexion.

Acne, Trauma, or Surgical Scars

Isn’t the skin’s healing ability amazing? Your skin can heal itself after being burned, cut open, scraped, or taking other damage from illness, the environment, or conditions like acne. Unfortunately, this damage usually comes with a price in the form of a permanent scar.

Halo™ Laser

The Halo laser by Sciton is the world’s first laser that uses both ablative and non-ablative lasers to maximize results and reduce recovery time. Depending on the unique characteristics of your scars, we may use this laser to gently remove top layers of the damaged skin and kickstart collagen production. This gives you a smaller, flatter, less pigmented scar.

MicroLaserPeel®

MicroLaserPeel is an advanced laser treatment that uses an Erbium-YAG laser with a precise ablative wavelength. This allows us to tailor the scar treatment to our client’s goals. The MicroLaserPeel targets and eliminates dark pigmentation and clears away the upper damaged layers of skin to reveal fresh skin underneath.

Enlarged Pores

It’s a common misconception that your pores change size. They don’t! What makes them appear more prominent, or “larger,” can include:

  • Overproduction of sebum (oil)
  • Reduced skin elasticity
  • Unprotected UV exposure
  • Genetics

While we can’t control your genetics, we can offer certain treatments to make your skin healthier, which, in turn, minimizes the appearance of your pores.

Microdermabrasion

Modern microdermabrasion treatments are based on exfoliation treatments that have been practiced since ancient times. The idea of applying something with grit to the skin to remove outer layers of dead, damaged skin dates back thousands of years, and it’s survived this long because it works!

Microdermabrasion is a treatment at our Rochester med spa that almost anyone can benefit from. Regular treatments (every other month or quarterly) compound the results and give you glowing skin that’s smooth and even in texture and tone.

SaltFacial

A SaltFacial is another treatment we offer that addresses overall skin health. It’s like microdermabrasion on steroids. Remember: healthy, squeaky clean skin is what you need to get barely-there pores.

First, we physically exfoliate the skin with all natural Himalayan sea salt. We use a handpiece to purify and remove the top layer of skin, eliminating dead skin cells, oil, and other pore-clogging dirt and debris. Next, we use ultrasound technology to drive antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid deep into the skin tissue where it’s needed to provide lasting moisture. Finally, we use multi-wavelength LED phototherapy to treat acne, remove redness, and promote collagen production.

With regular SaltFacials at Envision Aesthetics, you can kiss enlarged or noticeable pores goodbye!

Unwanted Hair

For many of us, especially our ladies out there, hair removal is a regular (super annoying) part of life. Razors are expensive, waxing and epilation hurt, and then the rash or bumps that follow these archaic methods are a problem all on their own. It’s 2021, step away from the hot wax and invest in laser hair removal!

Forever Bare BBL

At Envision Aesthetics, we turn to the power of BBL to get rid of unwanted hair. Although both BBL hair reduction and laser hair removal work similarly, the key difference between the two is the type of light used. Lasers use a single focused beam of light, while BBL hair reduction uses pulses of broadband light. BBL contains several wavelengths instead of having a single light source, and can penetrate a variety of skin levels.

With the power of Forever Bare BBL at our Rochester med spa, you’ll uncover smooth, hairless skin that’s worth showing off!

Dermaplaning

Since there’s no dark pigment for the light to target, neither laser nor BBL hair removal is effective on unpigmented hair. This includes vellus hairs or “peach fuzz” on your face. Even though this hair is translucent, it can get in the way of a smooth makeup application or prohibit topical ingredients from penetrating the skin as thoroughly as they could.

Dermaplaning involves the careful use of a sharp surgical blade (scalpel) to remove congesting peach fuzz and dead skin, allowing your newest, healthiest skin cells to shine! Removing this hair also allows makeup to go on smooth, with no settling between the brows or over the lip.
