How to Budget for Medical Aesthetics

Medical aesthetic treatments such as injectables and laser therapy can improve your appearance and confidence. Unfortunately, the cost can be intimidating for many.

Just like anything else, with great reward comes a cost, but that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank! Since medical spa treatments are out-of-pocket, it’s important to learn how to budget for medical aesthetics. In this guide, you will learn how to budget for medical aesthetics and plan your aesthetic journey!

Pay in advance if possible

At Envision Aesthetics, we always encourage people to pay in advance to lessen any financial burden down the road. However, we understand that can be easier said than done. Below are some strategies for payment options.

Preload your account

Load your account ahead of time! Maybe you’re not sure how many products or aesthetic treatments you want (and we can help you with that!), but you want to put some money toward them to prepare. For example, if you have extra money from a Christmas bonus but don’t want to get a treatment until July, you can think of it as a gift to your future self!

You can preload money into your account at any time, a little here and there. This strategy pays off (literally) because you will already have some money paid toward a treatment when it comes time to book.

Pay one sum at the beginning

If you have a set aesthetic plan for treatment and know the full cost, set aside the amount and pay it all in one lump sum. This way, you won’t have to worry and stress about multiple payments coming up throughout treatment. You’ll feel at ease knowing the cost is fully covered.

Pay up front and save

Many medical spas offer savings programs where you can save a percentage if you pay for a certain amount of treatments up front. For example, at Envision we offer 15% off BBL packages when you pay for three treatment sessions up front!

CareCredit

Don’t have the funds to pay in full all at once? CareCredit is a credit card payment option  specifically for health and wellness. It allows members to pay for treatments in monthly payments. You can apply for CareCredit through your medical spa practice.

Target the areas of most concern

Simply put, the more areas you want to treat with aesthetic enhancements, the higher the cost. A good way to budget your spending is to decide which specific areas are at the top of your target list, and only treat those areas. Here are a few easy ways to get started:

1. Write a list of your concerns. This may include signs of aging, skin laxity, acne, redness, texture, etc.

2. Whittle down the list to your top two or three concerns ️

3. Do your research! Try out our virtual consultation tool to help you find the best treatment for your needs. Look for treatments that address your top concerns.

Plus, one specific treatment may work for multiple issues! If applicable, you can take our short quiz to find out which wrinkle treatment will work best for you.

Make a plan to budget for medical aesthetics and maximize your investment

In addition to knowing your budget and main concerns, having a plan is important to achieve the results you’re looking for. For most patients at Envision Aesthetics, Dr. Whipple recommends a combination of treatments and skincare plans for maximum results.

Use good skincare products and have a routine

If you don’t take care of your skin, it’s harder to perfect with medical aesthetic treatments. If you want to invest in your skin with aesthetic enhancements, why not invest in your skin every day through a great skincare routine? Using a small arsenal of skincare products to care for your skin prepares it for the best results from medical aesthetic treatments. While everyone’s skin is different, below are a few tips to improve your day-to-day routine.

1. Cleanse every day with an effective cleanser. Find a product that doesn’t strip your skin but still washes away makeup, pollutants, dirt, and other residue. Your cleanser shouldn’t feel harsh on your skin, burn, or leave your face feeling overly dry.

2. Moisturize! Dry skin emphasizes texture, fine lines, and other signs of aging. Adding moisture into your skin improves dullness, and it helps maintain hydration.

3. Use sunscreen. You may even find a combination moisturizer/sunscreen product! Sunscreen is one of the best ways to protect your skin daily.

4. Using a serum for the mornings and evenings helps increase moisture and improve skin-surface texture. Find a serum that protects in the morning and one that repairs at night.

In summary, you can always add extra products to enhance your skincare routine, but using a good cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and serum prepares your skin for maximum benefits from aesthetic treatments.

If applicable, complete a laser resurfacing treatment before a filler treatment

Something to understand about filler is that it doesn’t help if the skin’s surface has deep texture. A combination of a laser resurfacing treatment then filler can elevate the filler’s effects dramatically.

Fill in or soften lines with injectables

Dermal fillers work to fill in and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can also use them to enhance different areas and contours of your face. Botox is an effective wrinkle treatment to minimize dynamic wrinkles or expression lines.

As you can see, you can create a plan that will give you the best results for your aesthetic enhancements!

You will save yourself time and money in the long run by preparing and planning out your aesthetic enhancement journey. Within this plan will be a total cost, so you will be able to gauge how to budget for medical aesthetics.

Spread out treatments to smaller, more frequent visits

Instead of getting everything at once and paying one large sum, you can plan to spread your aesthetic treatment plan into small, manageable payments and sessions.

By spreading out treatment over time, you can still pay in advance! This way you will not have to worry about one large cost that may be harsh on your finances.

DON’T go somewhere cheap

We know this might sound counterintuitive at first, but hear us out. There are certain things you do not want to cheap out on because they can actually cost you more in the long run. We aren’t saying ignore a deal; we often have specials ourselves! However, if you find a facility offering procedures way below market price, that could be a huge red flag.

A cheaper option may have factors that go into making it “affordable” such as:

Less training for the injector/technician.

Let’s face it—when it comes to your body, you want someone who knows what they’re doing (whether it be a tattoo artist, a dentist, or a hairstylist). The same goes for aesthetic injectors and technicians. It’s important that this person has adequate training or the results could be bad or even harmful to your health.

Low-quality product

Cheaper options are often a cheaper product. Many treatment and product prices are determined based on the quality of the products being used. There are cheaper lasers, fillers, and other aesthetic treatments out there, and they may be cheap for a reason.

Unsafe environment

To run a business for less cost, many places may cut corners to offer lower prices. Since some aesthetic treatments are classified as medical, there are very important health precautions that businesses need to take.

Cheaper places may disregard health and cleanliness, leaving their clients much more susceptible to unsafe environments.

What you should look for in a medical aesthetics spa

There are several attributes in a high-quality medical spa. The following explanations tell you about each attribute, as well as how these factors determine treatment and product prices. Again, learning how to budget for medical aesthetics starts with finding the right medical spa for you.

Trained and experienced injectors, technicians, and staff

A good business invests in the training of their employees. When researching for a place to book aesthetic enhancement treatments, the medical spa should have a physician, registered nurses, and licensed aestheticians. It’s also advantageous to seek a med spa that has a board-certified physician, as you will get the best advice on surgical and non-surgical treatment.

At Envision Aesthetics, we prioritize training throughout our entire office. Our own Dr. Whipple is a Cosmetic and Reconstructive Oculofacial Plastic surgeon.

High-quality products and treatment devices

With so many items on the market, it’s important to find a practice that only works with the highest quality aesthetic products and devices. The medical spa employees should have extensive training on any new products and equipment.

At Envision we train everyone, including our front desk staff, on each treatment so they are knowledgeable for customers. We also complete advanced training past the initial training with a representative. One of our newer treatments that we’ve completed extensive training on is the Salt Facial

Proper equipment to keep areas clean and sterilized

A good practice makes health and safety their #1 priority. They will use the proper supplies to maintain cleanliness and keep everything sterilized. If there is an issue, the med spa should have the equipment to resolve it.

To summarize, you should look for a medical spa that has well-trained, licensed staff, high-quality products and equipment, and superior cleanliness. These factors reflect in product and treatment costs; a good practice will not have rock bottom prices.

Always keep in mind that quantity doesn’t equal quality, and it’s far better to have a result you’re happy with than a result that reflects a super low price. You should love your results the first time; spending more money on corrective procedures is much worse on your budget in the long run.
