Envision Eye & Aesthetics

Looking for a Facial Laser Treatment? Here’s what to expect.

Aesthetics practices have used lasers for decades. However, recent advancements in this technology have allowed us to expand our understanding of how lasers can be used to target and treat different levels of the skin and body. Now we have the ability to create innovative treatment plans that bring optimal results for patients of all ages!

As an aesthetic laser center in Rochester, the team at Envision Eye & Aesthetics has seen it all, from skin resurfacing to laser hair removal, and everything in between. Laser technology empowers us to safely and effectively help our clients from Rochester, Pittsford, Brighton, Fairport, and surrounding communities through constantly evolving and improving treatments.

Read on for everything you need to know about laser treatments  from an experienced aesthetic laser center in Rochester.

How do laser treatments work?

There is a wide spectrum of light wavelengths – some of which are extremely beneficial, and others which can be harmful to skin.

Light energy with a shorter wavelength, like X-rays and UV rays, penetrate the skin with ionizing radiation, altering your DNA and causing serious damage. The sun emits these rays, including UVA and UVB; they are to blame for premature aging, wrinkles, sagging, brown spots, and even skin cancer.

On the other hand, we can utilize other wavelengths for skin rejuvenation, like broadband light or LED light. These have therapeutic effects on the skin, selectively targeting and removing impurities when focused on a particular area. This light energy can even reverse some of the visible damage done to the skin by UV rays!

Which laser treatment should I get?

There are, of course, a variety of different laser treatments we offer that can accomplish similar effects to one another. However, we can’t recommend any of them without meeting you first!

During an initial complementary skin care consultation, we will assess your skin’s type and tone, severity of your concerns, and discuss your medical history to determine your candidacy for these various options.

When building your comprehensive treatment plan, we also take into account your specific aesthetic goals. For example, if you are looking for a skin tightening effect, we may recommend treatments like ForeverYoung BBL, RF Microneedling, or a combination of multiple.

And if you want the ultimate laser treatment? You’ll meet the Halo laser.

Halo: your skin’s new BFF

Halo uses two wavelengths of energy to treat the skin.

The first is an “ablative” wavelength meaning it treats the skin’s surface by removing the top layer of dead and damaged cells.

The second is a “non-ablative” wavelength that delivers heat to the deeper layers of skin to help promote collagen production.

This “dual fractional” approach treats melasma, sun damage, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and rosacea.

We can use the Halo to treat the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. We can even produce what some call a “nonsurgical neck lift” to tighten and brighten the appearance of the neck for an overall rejuvenated look.

How much does Halo cost?

There are a variety of med spa treatments for every budget. Specifically, the cost of a Halo treatment depends on the size of the treated area and the number of sessions you need to achieve your goal.

We also offer specials, discounts, and promotions throughout the year to show our appreciation and help you better budget for medical aesthetics

What to look for in an aesthetic laser center

The only people who should be handling aesthetic lasers are skilled medical professionals. If you’re looking for a laser treatment in Rochester, we highly recommend vetting the aesthetic laser center before you book an appointment.

Here are some initial questions you can (and should!) ask your aesthetic laser specialist before your visit.

✅ How many years of experience do you have?

The last thing you want when visiting an aesthetic laser center is to be booked with a new-to-the-industry provider. A true laser specialist should have multiple years of experience in performing the specific treatment you’re looking for. If not, they should, at a minimum, be highly supervised by a seasoned veteran.

Our laser specialists are highly trained and overseen by Dr. Katherine Whipple. With a long background as an oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Whipple has years of experience with handling highly specialized technology and employing them on even the most delicate and sensitive areas.

✅ What kind of laser technologies do you use?

Not all lasers were created equal. There are low-, medium-, and high-grade laser treatments, and not all of them will produce the same results in the same amount of time!

Envision Eye & Aesthetics uses lasers such as the Halo by Sciton because it is the gold standard of the aesthetic laser industry. It requires little downtime, yet produces the best possible results with the least number of treatments.

✅ What kind of results can I expect?

Pictures speak a thousand words—and they don’t lie, either. It’s why before and after photos are one of the most important assets an aesthetic laser specialist can provide you with.

Before your appointment, you should look on the laser center’s website and/or ask to see their portfolio of results for your specific treatment(s). Not only will this show that they have experience using this technology; it will also show you how realistic they might be in portraying your own potential results.

Your laser specialist should be up front and honest about how many sessions you will likely need to reach your goals—or if your goals are actually not achievable.

That’s right. Lasers aren’t a fix-all solution to every problem! In all honesty, about 10% of the patients we see cannot fully achieve all of the results they’re looking for with non-surgical treatment alone.

If you don’t feel you can trust your provider to be totally transparent with you, we definitely recommend getting a second opinion at another practice!

✅ What should I do to prepare for my appointment?

When you book your appointment at an aesthetic laser center, one of the biggest red flags to look for is whether or not they tell you how to prepare for your appointment.

For example, we ask that our patients come to their laser appointment with a fresh face, clear of any makeup or products. They should also not have received a spray tan or suntan in the last two weeks. Fall or winter is the perfect time to receive a laser treatment since it’s easy to stay out of the sun. Skin should not be exfoliated within one week of your treatment. Additionally, retinol and doxycycline should be stopped.

Because laser facials are an outpatient procedure performed in the office, you won’t need to line up a driver to take you home. However, you may want to plan to work remotely (or take off entirely) for a few days afterward to help your skin heal.

 ✅ Will my treatment hurt?

When dealing with aesthetic lasers, it’s possible you will feel some pain or discomfort during treatment. That doesn’t mean it has to be unbearable! Your aesthetic laser specialist should have a regimented method in place for managing your pain and keeping you comfortable during and after your treatment. They should also be totally transparent and upfront with you about what to expect so you aren’t misled about the nature of your treatment!

At Envision Eye & Aesthetics we apply a top-grade numbing cream thirty minutes prior to your treatment. During treatment, we will tailor the level of the laser as needed, plus can take a break at any time.

✅ Will you send me home with aftercare instructions?

Following meticulous aftercare instructions will help you maintain the results of your laser treatment for the longest amount of time possible. So if you’re choosing to invest in your skin, your laser specialist should provide you with all of the information (and products!) you need to help your skin heal correctly and completely.

✅ What other treatments do you offer?

If you already know without a doubt you want a laser treatment, you may not need to worry about this question. However, it’s important to understand that if your aesthetic laser center doesn’t carry a treatment that will best fit your unique needs that they be totally honest with you. They should never try to sell you something that won’t work simply because they don’t actually have the technology in-house to help you. For example, some patients come to Envision thinking they need Halo when what they actually need to accomplish their goals is a few rounds of microdermabrasion or a MicroLaserPeel.

The best way to avoid being sold something ineffective is to go to a medical spa with a full suite of services that can improve the look and feel of your skin from the inside out. With more tools available, we can totally customize a treatment plan for you, rather than selling you a “package” of things that may not yield the results you’re looking for.
